How would you describe the difference between quantitative and qualitative research to someone who was completely unfamiliar with these concepts?

Some people consider the difference between the terms “quantitative” and “qualitative” to be similar to the difference between facts and feelings. These individuals might argue that quantitative approaches are better or more appropriate than qualitative approaches, particularly in health care. They might support this argument by saying that quantitative approaches are based on numbers and concrete evidence rather than on subjective observations and opinions.

Based on the information presented in this week’s Learning Resources and Media, do you think this an accurate way of distinguishing quantitative and qualitative methods of research? Is one method inherently superior to the other? How would you describe the difference between quantitative and qualitative research to someone who was completely unfamiliar with these concepts?

, explain one advantage and one disadvantage of a marriage, couple, and family counselor being familiar with the DSM-V

Marriage, Couple, and Family Counseling and the DSM-V Though the philosophy and values surrounding marriage, couple, and family counseling emphasize prevention and wellness, awareness of diagnosis is important when interacting with other mental health professionals who may view mental health issues through the medical model. The DSM-V, the primary diagnostic system/manual used in the United States by such professionals, identifies and describes individual mental health disorders, not relational issues or disorders. Those mental health professionals who adopt a systems or relational view of mental health have been able to implement small changes within the DSM in its subsequent editions, and these changes acknowledge the systemic influence on certain individual disorders. Nevertheless, there is not yet an adopted diagnostic structure for relational problems. Therefore, you may sometimes need to negotiate your relational perspective with other professionals and communicate client matters with insurance reimbursement boards (who see mental health problems as individual in nature) in their language. With these thoughts in mind: Post by Day 4 an example of a specific instance in which you may need to consult with another mental health professional who utilizes theDSM-V. Then, explain how your familiarity with the DSM-V may influence this consultation. Next, explain one advantage and one disadvantage of a marriage, couple, and family counselor being familiar with the DSM-V. Be specific.

Do you think these restaurants should be held accountable for offering food that is inherently unhealthy?

Given that fast food and chain restaurants sell food items that single-handedly can exceed the recommended daily intake of fat, calories, sodium, and cholesterol, some individuals who have developed ailments as a result of consuming such food have recently begun to pursue litigation against these fast food and chain restaurants for intentionally selling foods they know are unhealthy. The chains have largely countered these lawsuits with the notion that their foods should be consumed in a limited quantity and coupled with regular exercise and other healthy behaviors. Do you think these restaurants should be held accountable for offering food that is inherently unhealthy? Or should Americans be held responsible for our behavior of continuing to consume it and more often than recommended?

Which of these performance measures do you believe is most important to potential customers of healthcare services?  Why?

Go to http://www.medicare.gov/NursingHomeCompare/About/What-Is-NHC.html  and read about the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS)  Nursing Home Compare website. This website allows you to compare the  performance of nursing facilities throughout the United States.

Assignment:

Go to (http://www.medicare.gov/nursinghomecompare/search.html)  and search for a nursing facility that you have visited in the past.   If you have never visited a nursing facility in the United States,  select one from Bowling Green, ky (zip code 42101) or your hometown.

  1. Note how your selected nursing facility rates in each of the following quality measurement categories:
    1. Health Inspections
    2. Staffing
    3. Quality Measures
  2. Explore the website further and review the data for each measurement category. Then answer the following
  3. Which of these performance measures do you believe is most important to potential customers of healthcare services?  Why?
  4. Which performance measure is least important to the consumers?  Why?
  5. Should consumers use this website as part of their process to select a nursing facility? Why or why not?
  6. What other factors, data, information or methods should a consumer seek out and utilize when choosing a nursing facility?
  7. If you have visited this nursing facility, do you agree with the ratings it has received by CMS?

Research Component.

  1. Find a full article source on  Google Scholar or in WKU libraries that discuss a topic relative to this  discussion, such as health inspection ratings in nursing homes, quality  of care in nursing homes, innovative practices, staffing ratios in  nursing homes, safety concerns, law suits, etc.
  2. Utilize this article within your paper,  tying the information you found with this article as you review and  analyze and think critically about what you are reading about the  facility you have selected.
  3. Cite this reference at the end of your  discussion board post in proper APA format and be sure to reference it  at least once within your post.

Explain how these issues might compare to the types of issues you have already encountered in your practice.

Reflect on ethical challenges that you have encountered in your nursing practice.

Think about the information the experts shared in this week’s media presentation,

focusing on the ethical challenges they have encountered as nurse leaders or scientists, as well as information presented in other Learning Resources.

With this information in mind, consider what new ethical challenges you may face once you obtain your doctoral degree.

Post a  2 pages cohesive response that addresses the following:

Describe two or more significant ethical issues relevant to the DNP prepared nurse.

Explain how these issues might compare to the types of issues you have already encountered in your practice.

What type of resources and support would you need to make the learning process effective for you?

Instructions

Create a 6–8-page description and justification of your ideal learning situation. Your ideal learning situation should incorporate learning theory terminology and concepts and be supported by learning theories.

How do you learn best? What types of resources and support would you need to make the learning process effective? The purpose of describing your ideal learning situation is to apply learning theory, evaluate the role of motivation, and be able to differentiate which components can be applied in a broader context.

By successfully completing this assessment, you will demonstrate your proficiency in the following course competencies and assessment criteria:

  • Competency 1: Evaluate the strengths, limitations, and applications of the foundational learning theories.
    • Justify which learning theory best supports a personal learning situation.
    • Differentiate between the components of the learning situation that are specific to the individual and those that are more broadly applicable.
  • Competency 2: Evaluate the strengths, limitations, and applications of the learning sub-processes.
    • Apply learning theory terminology and concepts to describe a learning situation.
    • Evaluate the role of motivation in a learning situation.
  • Competency 3: Apply evidence based research in learning theories to guide decision making and problem solving.
    • Evaluate how effective this learning situation would be with the previous case study and broader population.
  • Competency 4: Communicate in a manner that is scholarly, professional, and consistent with expectations for members of the psychological professions.
    • Write clearly and logically, with correct use of spelling, grammar, punctuation, and mechanics; format paper, citations, and references using APA style.

Preparation

If you could suspend reality and create a perfect learning method for yourself, what would that look like? What type of resources and support would you need to make the learning process effective for you? In this assessment, you will describe your ideal learning situation.

Instructions

Start by identifying a skill or concept that you always wanted to learn.

  • Which learning theory or theories best support how you would learn this topic?
  • Reflecting on your past learning experiences, how you learn best, and what motivates you, describe the perfect situation for you to learn about your selected topic by using concepts and terminology consistent with the learning theories this course has explored.
  • Compare this with the case study you chose for assessments 1 and 2.
    • Which components should be tailored to the specific learner?
    • Which components of your learning situation could be applied to a broader population?
    • Evaluate the effectiveness of your learning situation for the case study.
  • After applying your personal learning situation to the case study, think about how the same components might be applied to the broader population you may encounter in your specialized field of psychology, supporting your viewpoint with learning theories.

Make sure to include the following in your assessment:

  • Apply learning theory terminology and concepts to describe the learning situation.
  • Justify which learning theory best supports the personal learning situation.
  • Evaluate the role of motivation in this learning situation.
  • Evaluate how effective this learning situation would be with the previous case study and broader population.
  • Differentiate between the components of the learning situation that are specific to the individual and those are more broadly applicable.

Additional Requirements

  • Length: 6–8 pages (not counting your title page or references), double-spaced, 12-point font.
  • Number of references: Minimum of 10 references.
  • Article distinctions: There are three different types of articles. Research articles present original research, review articles discuss research already presented elsewhere, and survey articles are comprehensive review articles that discuss an entire field or area of research. References to books are acceptable, but they should be kept to a minimum—probably no more than five.
  • APA style: You must use proper APA style to cite and list your references. Refer to the Writing Center’s APA Style and Format guidelines (linked in the Suggested Resources) for more information.
  • Format: Use the following structure:
    • Cover page (your name, your specialization or program, title and course number, current quarter and year, and instructor’s name).
    • Abstract (optional).
    • Body, including headings and subheadings over the appropriate content.
    • Reference list.
    • Refer to the APA Style and Format guidelines for additional formatting information.
  • Style: Write in the third person as an impartial narrator. Avoid the use of I, we, or you. In particular, avoid phrases like “I think” in favor of phrases like “the evidence suggests” or “research indicates.” In science, personal opinion carries no weight unless supported by a combination of empirical research and statistical or logical-mathematical inference.
  • Other notes: Avoid long quoted passages from your source texts. Your writing should be a synthesis of your own ideas, in your own words—even if your ideas refer to the original ideas of others, in which case the references should be explicit. Graduate level writing should be scholarly and more than a mere summary. It should present a unique thesis or at least a significant point you are trying to make, adding appreciably to what is already known of your topic. Your point or thesis will stand or fall solely on its strength—that is, the quality and quantity of the evidence you present.
